More and more Americans take vitamins and other health supplements to help maintain their health and well-being. And every day, Internet sites appear touting the benefits of these products. According to a recent Harris Poll, 60 million adults successfully searched the Internet for health information last year. But even in an age of unlimited resources, it's hard to swallow the latest vitamin news on the Internet without a healthy bit of skepticism.Finding vitamin information on the Web
"If used properly, the Internet can be a meaningful source of reliable vitamin information and help you take control of your own health," said Dr. Andrew Weil. "However, it is vital that consumers look closely at vitamin information they find on the Internet, and ask some fundamental questions."
When using the Internet to research credible health information, keep the following criteria in mind:
  • Is the site easy-to-navigate?
  • With a click or two of the mouse, can you get to the information you need?
  • Is the information presented in language that is easy to understand?
  • Where does the information come from?
  • Is clinical data referenced to third-party research, peer-reviewed journals or medical or health professionals?
  • Does the site recommend proper dosing?
  • Does the site include information about benefits, possible side effects and potential drug interactions?

Among the most important things to remember when takingTo top supplements is that before you start, check with your physician.
